HPCN workshop at European IT Conference
Almere, 23-9-1996
At the European IT Conference, the Esprit Conference organised by the European Commission, there will be a special post-conference workshop on HPCN added.
The yearly European IT Conference, EITC'96, will be held in Brussels on 25-27 November. On November 28 a special Post conference workshop on HPCN will be organised.
The workshop will consist of 5 separate groups:
- Promoting networking best practice in industry
- Quality inspection
- Quadrics User-Group
- Issues in Marketing & development of European HPCN Software Tools
- HPCN Technology: Take-Up and Transfer
Promoting networking best practice in industry
Aims to identify the actions necessary for a more effective promotion of networking best practice in industry. Examines the current state of networking best practice in industry. Examines the current state of play and presents flagship projects now underway in Europe, including a status report on HPCN networking and practice and experiments projects. Considers potential benefits from the use of advanced networking services, the current hot issues and the possible pitfalls.
Quality inspection
Increased computing power and decreasing costs of IT systems coupled with the mastering of new cognitive techniques such as neural networks, means that real time quality inspection systems are becoming both technically feasible and cost-effective. This workshop presents a number of success stories and attempts to draw some general conclusions. If you are working in industry and could benefit from implementation of optical quality inspection systems on your production lines, come to this workshop.
Quadrics User-Group
Brings together users of computers distributes by the newly formed QSW company, namely SIMD Quadrics and MIMD CS-2 computers, to share their experiences on applications and production use of the machines. Enables users of SIMD and MIMD machines share experiences.
Issues in the marketing & development of European HPCN software tools
Promotes an exchange of views on the current global situation of parallel HPCN tools, their functionality, and their market prospects. The position of Europe in this market will be discussed in this meeting, and results of a survey initiated by the Commission on this topic presented.
HPCN technology: take-up and transfer
The Esprit project PCI and several others have shown that HPCN technologies are now mature and are cost-effective in a wide variety of industrial sectors - such as consumer goods, and advanced materials - were they have not been frequently used so far. As many of these industries in these sectors are small or medium size, systems seem to be the most appropriate technology. In the workshop a series of ongoing activities will be presented showing concrete examples of HPCN technology-transfer activities in Esprit. New activities will be presented, concentrating on how HPCN technologies can be accessed by SME's, via the HPCN Technology Transfer Nodes.
