30-04-97 New HPCnet webserver networks Europe

The. European network of excellence in HPCN, HPCnet, has launched its new webserver at HPCN Europe in Vienna. The new server provides easy access to information on European HPCN institutes and companies, an d HPCnet activities.

30-04-97 EC initiatives promoting HPCN

Three talks at HPCN Europe were dedicated to activities partially funded by the European Commission in order to promote the use of HPCN technologies in the industry. The Parallel Computing Initiative, Europort and the Technology Transfer Nodes programme The future Fifth Framework programme will also support this kind of transfer activities.

30-04-97 Looking for partners with Idealfit

Idealfit helps companies who have difficulty in finding the right partners for European projects in other countries. At HPCN Europe in Vienna, Idealfit set up a brokerage event for companies interested in getting involved in esprit projects, Twelve companies took part.

The main focus of the INNO TTN is HPCN-enabled machine vision applications for quality control in production lines. In particular, INNO aims at developing a centre of expertise that has the know-how for the introduction of value-added services directly to the industrial sector and the production line. These services include identification of particular needs and customisation of the available solutions, setting up a prototype and supervising the operation, measuring the performance against prespecified goals and incorporation of the complete process experience into the value added chain. In turn, these results will further boost INNO's ability and flexibility to offer a concise, time critical, professional knowledge to industrial partners.
18-04-97 HPCN Technology Transfer Nodes in France

Under the European HPCN Program, two Technology Transfer Nodes (TTN) are promoting the use of High Performance Computing and Networking technologies in France :ProHPC and HiperTTN. ProHPC is managed by a consortium of four partners particularly active in France in the domain of HPC technologies : ENS Lyon (coordinator), INRIA, Matra Cap Systemes and Simulog. HiperTTN has been set up by five institutions: CERFACS (France), FEUP (Portugal), LABEIN (Spain), NTUA (Greece) and UPV (Spain) which have worked together since 1992. Both come under the umbrella of the METIER2 Network, coordinated by a French company: ARTTIC.
04-04-97 VR for Europe

To promote the use of Virtual Reality technology for industrial applications in the European Union the European Commissionhas launched an activity called "VR for Europe". It is a support activity in the Esprit HPCN domain. "VR for Europe" is conducted by the 3D Computer Graphics and VR group at SYSECA S.A. in Paris, France.
04-04-97 RAIN storms neurocomputing

RAIN: Redundant Array of Inexpensive workstations for Neurocomputing, is a new initative of the European Commission. RAIN is the development of two technology demonstrators in the field of neurocomputing on a cluster of workstations. The applications will be selected from the most representative in the industrial and medical field. RAIN is developed by the University of Genova, Italy.
01-04-97 Workshop on exploitation of multimedia databases

The Workshop on exploitation of multimedia databases was held on 13 and 14 March 1997, at Ispra in Italy, and organized by the Joint Reasearch Centre (JRC) for the Europeen Commission - DG III: Industry - RTD: Information Technologies.
