22-7-96 Overview of all Esprit HPCN projects
Ever wondered how many projects there are currently funded by the Esprit HPCN programme? Stumbled into a funny acronym and did not know whether it was a serious project or not? The answers to these questions can now been found in a recently published overview.

18-7-96 Esprit HPCN put in perspective
At the NATO Workshop, Agnès Bradier of DG III (Industry) of the European Commission talked on the HPCN part of Esprit. The session in which she contributed featured some presentation by vendors. She felt very much comfortable in that environment, she said, nowadays Esprit projects are certainly no longer just high-in-the-clouds research; projects must be practical and based on user requirements in the markets.

17-7-96 HPCN Call For Tender
The EC has issued an Invitation to tender III/96/55 for the selection of organisations providing technical and scientific support to the HPCN domain of the IT programme. It is an open procedure.

14-7-96 UK Information Day on EU HPCN Initiatives in
September
The UK Department of Trade and Industry is co-sponsoring together with Smiths Engineering Associates an Information day on the EU's HPCN Preparatory Support and Transfer Activities. This is to be held on 9th of September at the DTI HQ Conference Centre, 1 Victoria Street, SW1, London.

14-7-96 CEC's Grata explains 4th framework programme
emphasis on Technology Transfer & Innovation
G. Grata, Director General of DGXIII/D, EU Commission, explained the reasoning behind the EU Framework Four R&D Programme in relation to Technology Transfer & Innovation at the third biennial international Technology Transfer & Innovation conference in London on 1-3 July. This conference, organised by the Teaching Company Directorate attracted some 350 participants. The aims are to encourage innovation in industry and commerce, particularly small or medium sized enterprises, and to identify means of its successful implementation.

14-7-96 UK unveils strategic Eureka plans
United Kingdom has begun its year long chairmanship of pan-European research and development programme Eureka with a promise to launch major strategic IT projects, set to include high performance computing and data processing, officials said.
