Performance verification of MIPSpro 7.2, using the SPEC benchmarks of system performance, was conducted on a 195 MHz MIPS R10000 microprocessor-based Origin2000 server configured with 4 MByte of secondary cache. The new compilers produced a 25-percent gain on the SPECint95 measure of integer performance, bringing it to 11.4 for SPECint_peak95 and 10.9 for SPECint_base95.
The new compilers can be installed on any Silicon Graphics MIPS microprocessor-based machines running IRIX 6.2, 6.3 or 6.4.
New feature include automatic parallelization and global code motion. These features increase application performance by taking full advantage of multiprocessor execution. Additionally, existing MIPSpro features have been enhanced such as interprocedural analysis and global register allocation --which enable the compilers to analyze an entire program at once.
The MIPSpro 7.2 compilerssupport C, C++, Fortran 77 and Fortran 90.
