Virtual Medical Worlds Magazine - a new service from Primeur

Almere, 01 November 97 Together with Euromed and with support from HPCnet, Primeur started a new magazine "Virtual Medical Worlds Magazine". It is an initiative to keep the public well informed about the latest computing related telemedicine results. The magazine has been conceived as a news site on the web which will appear on a monthly basis. It is also available through e-mail.

Telemedicine is a new key word entering our medical vocabulary. Telemedicine is about the implementation of high performance computing and networking in the field of health care. All over the world scientists - physicians as well as computer specialists - are developing new computational tools to assist and help the individual patient in a more efficient way. Governments and private industry are supporting them to prepare the revolutionary medical information technology society of the 21st century.

'Virtual Medical Worlds Magazine' is aiming at a varied readership of workers in the telemedicine field, Euromed partners, members of the European Commission, TTN-project workers, medical staff, HPCN information specialised people, academic environments and possibly managers operating in the medical and computer industry.

The magazine contains short and scientifically justified but pleasantly digestible articles including links to related backgrounds and sources. Further more, it will present a news analysis n the most recent results in the field. Resource links to affiliated sites such as Euromed, HPCnet, EHTO and others, evidently will be provided for. A calendar with the forthcoming events will be completing the news site which hardly can do without a view on the future meetings, plans and demonstrations.

'Virtual Medical Worlds Magazine' has the intention to offer high quality standard news. The editorial team which takes care of gathering the news, writing the articles and putting the magazine together, therefore can rely on the expertise of a well balanced advisory board in which Euromed project members as well as academic and private industry professionals are taking part to guarantee the embedding into the everyday practice and research. The advisory board members take an active role acting also as correspondents who send news worthy material to the editorial team and are available to give their expert's opinion.

The newly set up magazine will especially focus on the Euromed project which is working on the creation of Virtual Medical Worlds, combining and supporting HPCN activities to enhance and standardise visualisation techniques to be used in telemedicine applications throughout Europe.
