New parallel Compaq servers

Houston, 10 November 97 Along with the new clusters Compaq also developed four new Compaq ProLiant servers. Three of them feature the Highly Parallel System Architecture, a new standards-based design that doubles system performance in memory and PCI (a) I/O bandwidth. In addition, enhanced versions of Compaq SmartStart and Compaq Insight Manager, setup and management tools are available. Likewise a new Compaq Hot Plug Redundant Power Supply for its mainstream server line.

To accelerate service operations and lower maintenance and upgrade costs, all four new ProLiant servers feature chassis designs that provide quick and easy access to major subsystems. These servers are also I2O(d) ready with the new Compaq I2O Connector in every model. The Compaq I2O Connector will support future, standards-based I/O accelerators that provide intelligent I/O scalability.

The Compaq ProLiant 5500 for business critical applications provides advanced multiprocessing capabilities with support for up to four 200 MHz Pentium Pro processors with integrated 512 Kbyte cache and up to 3 Gbyte of system memory for resource intensive applications.
