The e-IRG workshop planned to be held April 21-22, 2010 in Barcelona had to be postponed because of the volcanic eruption is Iceland. Computing systems are rapidly changing with multicore, GPUs, clusters, volunteer systems, Clouds, and Grids offering a confusing dazzling array of opportunities. New programming paradigms such as MapReduce and Many Task Computing have joined the traditional repertoire of work flow and parallel computing for the highest performance systems. Meanwhile the Life Sciences are continuing to expand in data generated with continuing improvement in the instruments for high throughput analysis. This "fourth paradigm" (observationally driven science) is joined by complex systems or biocomplexity that can build phenomenological models of biological systems and processes. This workshop juxtaposes these trends seeking those computational methods that will enhance scientific discovery.

The aim of the Workshop is to discuss the future developments in the HPC technologies, and to contribute to assess the main aspects of Grids and Clouds, with special emphasis on solutions to grid and cloud computing deployment. The HPC Advanced Workshops in Cetraro have brought together international leaders from academia, government, and industry continuously on a biennial basis since 1992, with two of the initial workshops sponsored by NATO.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide a forum for discussing recent advances, identifying open issues, introducing developments and tools, and presenting applications and enhancements for MapReduce (or very similar) systems. Contributions are solicited that investigate these issues, introduce new execution environments, apply performance evaluations and show the applicability to science and enterprise applications.

There is an ongoing set of unsolved large-scale problems, requiring novel, large-scale, distributed applications that need to use advanced distributed cyberinfrastructure. This workshop focuses on the complex issues, such as adapting to heterogeneity and being dynamic in space and time, that arise in developing, deploying, and executing large-scale distributed computing applications in science, engineering, medicine, business, economics, education, and other disciplines. This includes recent results on large scale and/or innovative applications that effectively use distributed heterogeneous and dynamic computing environments.

The 8th HealthGrid conference is the opportunity to discuss the state of the art for the integration of Grid practices into the fields of biology, medicine and health. This year, it will take place just at the time the European Grid Initiative will start federating the national Grid initiatives and propose its resources to the Research Infrastructures. The conference programme will include a number of high profile keynote presentations complemented by a set of refereed papers.

The SSAIE Summer School brings together the best international experts on software and services and graduate students, young researchers and professionals from leading academic, research and industrial organisations across Europe and around the world. In addition to high quality training, the Summer School helps forge a new research and scientific community on Service Science Management and Engineering (SSME). The Summer School fosters the free exchange of ideas and helps the participants to network and start new co-operative research projects.

The conference is to address, explore and exchange information on the state-of-the-art in high performance and large scale computing systems, their use in modelling and simulation, their design and use, and their impact. Participation is extended to researchers, designers, educators and interested parties in all related disciplines and specialties. The conference will include invited presentations from experts from academia, industry, and government as well as contributed paper presentations describing original work on the current state of research in HPC & Simulation technologies and systems and related issues.

Engineering activities are based on the development of new Knowledge (scientia), new "made things" (techné) and/or new ways of working and doing (praxis). Scientia, techné and praxis are three important dimensions of a comprehensive conception of Engineering as a whole. Engineering, as scientia, is mostly developed in academia; as techné is practiced in industry generating technological innovations; and as praxis is carried out in technical and non-technical organisations, supporting managerial activities and technical procedures, via methodical and methodological design and implementation. This is why Engineering provides one of the most solid academic and professional substrata for bridging among Universities, industries and governments.

An increasing number of authors, especially in the last decade, are stressing the relationships between Design and Research. Design is, implicit or explicitly, an essential activity in Natural Science research, and an explicit backbone of the Artificial Sciences (Engineering, Architecture, etc.). In turn, Design, implicitly or explicitly, includes research activities. In Natural Sciences, design activities (hypothesis construction, experiment design, etc.) are means used in research, with the purpose of generating knowledge to be evaluated (validated and/or verified). In Artificial Sciences research is one of the means used to generate the knowledge required for design effectiveness. In other words, Design is a mean for Research, and Research is a mean for Design. Design and research are related via cybernetic loops in the context of means-ends logic.

The purpose of WMSCI 2010 is to promote discussions and interactions between researchers and practitioners focused on disciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary issues, ideas, concepts, theories, methodologies and applications. The organizers are particularly interested in fostering the exchange of concepts, prototypes, research ideas, and other results which could contribute to the academic arena and also benefit business, and the industrial community. WMSCI 2010 is an international forum for scientists and engineers, researchers and consultants, theoreticians and practitioners in the fields of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics. The purpose of DCNET 2010 is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested on communication networking between computer systems or other digital devices. Computer networking is a combination of knowledge related to the areas of telecommunications, computer science, information technology and/or computer engineering. Data communication networks rely heavily upon the theoretical and practical application of these scientific and engineering disciplines. DCNET encompasses a diversity of aspects, from network architecture and protocols, to network management, monitoring and control, performance analysis, sensor nets, services over networks, LANs and WANS, to higher education in the data communication field.

The International Conferences on Computing in High Energy and Nuclear Physics (CHEP) are a major series of international conferences for physicists and computing professionals from the high energy and nuclear physics community, computer science, and information technology. The event is organized by the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute in collaboration with the Portuguese Bioinformatics Network and hosted by the University of Malaga, Spain. This conference and workshop series, steered by the Cloud Computing Association, aims to bring together researchers who work on Cloud computing and related technologies. Conference keynotes will be presented by Ian T. Foster, distinguished fellow and associate division director in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory and by Kai Hwang, professor of electrical engineering and computer science and director of the Internet and Grid Computing Laboratory at the University of California.

MapReduce is a programming model, introduced by Google in 2004, to simplify distributed processing of large datasets on clusters of commodity computers. Currently, there exist several open-source implementations including Hadoop. MapReduce became the model of choice for many web enterprises, very often being the enabler for cloud services. Recently, it also gained significant attention in scientific community for parallel data analysis e.g. Rhipe. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss both theoretical and practical advances in MapReduce (or similar systems), identify open issues, present new related tools and report on scientific or industrial applications.

This conference invites presentations containing computational or financial econometric components. Computational and financial econometrics comprise a broad field that has clearly interested a wide variety of researchers in economics, finance, statistics, mathematics and computing. Examples include financial time series analyses that focus on efficient and robust portfolio allocations over time, asset valuations with emphases on option pricing, volatility measurements, models of market microstructure effects and credit risk. While such studies are often theoretical, they can also have a strong empirical element measuring risk and return and often have a significant computational aspect dealing with issues like high-dimensionality and large numbers of observations. Algorithmic developments are also of interest since existing algorithms often do not utilize the best computational techniques for efficiency, stability, or conditioning. So also are developments of environments for conducting econometrics, which are inherently computer based. Integrated econometrics packages have grown well over the years, but still have much room for development.

Parallel, Distributed, and Network-Based Processing has undergone impressive change over recent years. New architectures and applications have rapidly become the central focus of the discipline. These changes are often a result of cross-fertilisation of parallel and distributed technologies with other rapidly evolving technologies such as telecommunications and multimedia. It is of paramount importance to review and assess these new developments in comparison with recent research achievements in the well-established areas of parallel and distributed computing, from industry and the scientific community.

DEISA, the Distributed European Infrastructure for Supercomputing Applications, and PRACE, the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe, for the third time will merge their annual science symposia into one big European HPC event. The event is of major interest to a broad audience: computational scientists, HPC technology experts, government representatives, vendors, and industry partners.
