The goal of HPCS 2008 is to encourage innovation in high performance computing and communication technologies and to promote synergistic advances in modeling methodologies and simulation. It will promote the exchange of ideas and information between universities, industry, and national laboratories about new developments in system modeling, high performance computing and communication, and scientific computing and simulation.

The theme of the workshop is Event-based semantics for embedded and critical systems. There is a shift towards openness, distribution and federation for real time, multi-scale, embedded and critical systems. All this still with a

need for certification, resulting in a major verification challenge. The notion of Cyber-Physical System (CPS) is adding new dimensions to these challenges. Event-based semantics is a promising approach to support specification and verification of such systems. The aim of the workshop is to bring together people working on semantics and

people from the systems community. The idea is to stimulate discussion and exchange of ideas leading to a better understanding of the rich spectrum of notions of event and how they might be used in the design and development of this new class of systems, as well as to serve as a basis for system analysis and certification.

Data mining and knowledge discovery is rapidly becoming an important tool in all walks of human endeavour including science, engineering, industrial processes, health care, business, medicine and society. The datasets in these fields are large, complex, and often noisy. Extracting knowledge requires the use of sophisticated, high-performance and principled analysis techniques and algorithms, based on sound theoretical and statistical foundations. These techniques in turn require powerful visualization technologies; implementations that must be carefully tuned for performance; software systems that are usable by scientists, engineers, and physicians as well as researchers; and infrastructures that support them.

This conference provides a venue for researchers who are addressing these problems to present their work in a

peer-reviewed forum. It also provides an ideal setting for graduate students and others new to the field to learn about cutting-edge research by hearing outstanding invited speakers and attending tutorials. A set of focused workshops are also held on the last day of the conference.

IWOMP is the premier opportunity to learn more about parallel programming with OpenMP and to interact with OpenMP users and developers. The workshop also serves as a forum to present the latest research ideas and results related to OpenMP. IWOMP 2008 will be a three-day event. The first day will consist of tutorials focusing on topics of interest to current and prospective OpenMP developers, suitable for both beginners as well as those interested in learning of recent developments in the evolving OpenMP standard. SVR 2008, sponsored by the Brazilian Society of Computing (SBC), is an international scientific forum for the exchange of experience and knowledge among researchers, professionals, practitioners, students and developers concerned with research and development of virtual environments, virtual, augmented and mixed reality systems. The planned activities for SVR include a pre-symposium with minicourses, keynote speakers, technical minicourses, technical sessions, and thesis, dissertations and undergraduate work workshops.

SSDU-08 is intended to foster the dissemination of state-of-the-art research in the area of security and intelligence integrating into Ubi-com and data management technology. Also, it offers an opportunity for academic and industry professionals to discuss the latest issues and progress in the area of security, service and data management technologies in Ubi-com.

The HealthGrid conference is the premier conference on the transformation of biomedical research, education and medical care through the application of Grid technologies. HealthGrid is dedicated to: Enhancing biomedical research and health care delivery; Creating an open collaborative virtual community; Communicating the collective knowledge of the HealthGrid community.

OGF23 is the first event organized by the EU-funded project OGF-Europe, which is chartered with mobilizing and integrating the EU community on grid standards and best practices. The project will use OGF23 to launch its tutorial series and its initiatives on Digital Repositories and national and international grid interoperation. Grid case studies will be presented through the co-location of the EU-funded BEinGRID project's Industry Days event (3-5 June) at OGF23. Results and demonstrations of over 15 different "experiments" with grids in commercial sectors will be presented.

TG08 will foster collaborations among leading researchers, developers, and educators that build on the growing TeraGrid infrastructure. The IEEE International Conference on Sensor Networks, Ubiquitous, and Trustworthy Computing is an international forum for researchers to exchange information regarding advancements in the state of the art and practice of sensor networks, ubiquitous and trustworthy computing, as well as to identify the emerging research topics and define

WARP is a forum for the builders in the community to share their practical on-the-ground experiences, to provide a status update on their progress, and to convey insights for those considering prototyping, emulating, or modelling their ideas. This year's workshop will be held in two half-day sessions.

In this workshop, the focus is on leveraging the computing power provided by multi-core to address the issues of performance, power, programming model and reliability etc. for sequential programs which are executed on homogeneous or heterogeneous multi-core.

A growing "arsenal" of theoretical models, logics, and tools for understanding concurrent systems has been developed. Concurrency permeates not only computer systems but also nature and living organisms. Concurrency can be found at the molecular level as well as at those of cells, organs, individuals, communities and ecological systems. Also, biologically inspired computing could benefit from concurrency theory.

This workshop invites researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to discuss issues associated with the development of this global commercial Grid. The purpose of this workshop is also to suggest future directions of research and amendments to existing Grid technologies, aiming at the successful deployment of this global, commercial, service-oriented Grid system.

The CoreGRID Symposium aims at being the premiere European event on Grid Computing for the dissemination of the results from European and member states initiatives as well as other international projects in Grid research and technologies. DAPSYS 2008 will feature a special focus on desktop Grid computing. This symposium is dedicated to the understanding and characterization of workloads that run on all types of computing systems. New applications and programming paradigms continue to emerge as the diversity and performance of computers increase. On the one hand, computing workloads evolve and change with advances in microarchitecture, compilers, programming languages, and networking/communication technologies. On the other hand, improvements in computing technology are usually based on a solid understanding and analysis of existing

workloads. Whether they are PDAs, wireless and embedded systems at the low end or massively parallel systems at the high end, the design of future computing machines can be significantly improved if we understand the characteristics of the workloads that are expected to run on them.

OGF24 will show how grids have become a key enabling technology in a broad spectrum of IT environments. Participants will hear how researchers and scientists in both academic and commercial settings find grids useful to scale their compute capabilities and data analysis while enhancing their ability to collaborate across organisational boundaries. Participants will also hear how commercial users find grids to enable better business agility, reduce costs, and aid in the deployment of a shared, service-oriented infrastructure.
