This course is the last of a successful series started a few years ago with the aim teach anybody interested basic high performance computing skills to efficiently conduct research in computational science. The first week offers comprehensive lectures and lab exercises designed to elucidate the concepts from the lecture. This material is best suited for beginner/intermediate level students.

The second week of this event is dedicated to more advanced topics such as efficient method of handling large amounts of I/O, queue systems, Grids and computational infrastructure in the developing world. However, the lab section will focus on applying the concepts of week 1 to improve your own scientific software.

The main goal of GADA'08 is to provide a framework in which a community of researchers, developers and users can exchange ideas and works related to Grid, high-performance and distributed applications and systems. The second goal of GADA'08 is to create interaction between Grid computing researchers and the other OTM attendees. GADA'08 intends to draw a highly diverse body of researchers and practitioners by being part of the "On the Move to Meaningful Internet Systems and Ubiquitous Computing 2008" federated conferences event.

The SC Conference is the premier international conference for high performance computing (HPC), networking, storage and analysis. SC08 marks the 20th anniversary of the first SC Conference, then called Supercomputing, held in Orlando, Florida in 1988. When SC08 opens November 15, 2008 in Austin, Texas, the conference will feature the latest scientific and technical innovations from around the world. The Third Workshop on Workflows in Support of Large-Scale Science focuses on the entire workflow lifecycle including the workflow composition, mapping, and robust execution. PRACE - (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe - is arranging a scientific workshop to be held in parallel with ICT 2008. The themes of the first scientific workshop are Applications, Architectures and Training needs for the Petascale Regime. PRACE has applied for a networking session at ICT 2008, and if the application is selected, the networking session will form part of the workshop, along with an evening session and dinner on the 26th.

AlmereGrid and EDGeS with support from Gridforum.nl will organise a two-day Desktop Grid workshop. This workshop will start with an overview of the current state-of-the-art of Desktop Grid technology - especially BOINC, XtremWEB, and the EDGeS Grid Bridge, and selected examples of successful Desktop Grid applications from both research and industry.

The afternoon of the first day a Masterclass will address the porting of applications to Desktop Grids and Service Grids. This masterclass will be given by Tamas Kiss, from the Centre for Parallel Computing University of Westminster, London, UK, and responsible for application development and porting in the EDGeS project. This masterclass is part of a successful series of Grid masterclasses organised by the Dutch Gridforum Society.

The second day is of a more practical nature: it provides hands-on training in porting applications to the Grid. Participants will have access to the large European wide EDGeS Grid to run their exercises.

This SSOKU09 conference, jointly organised by the European Union funded projects 3S and CHALLENGERS, will set the foundation for an annual European Summit on Software Services and Service Oriented Knowledge Utilities technologies. The ICCS conference is the prime annual event in Computational Science. This interdisciplinary conference will draw academic and industry leaders from a variety of fields. The conference also will host computer and computational scientists who are designing and building the cyberinfrastructure necessary for next-generation computing.
