GriPhyN as a starting point for a new, faster Grid
The Universities of Florida and Chicago will lead an $11.9 million initiative that will lay the groundwork for a powerful, fast computational data grid. The initiative, called the Grid Physics Network, or GriPhyN (pronounced "griffin"), is funded by the largest grant in the National Science Foundation's new Information Technology Research programme, which supports long-term basic research on networking and information technology. Other major partners in the project are the University of Wisconsin, California Institute of Technology and the University of Southern California Information Sciences Institute (ISI). Connections will be set-up with the DataGrid, set up in Europe by a CERN lead Initative.
