Fujitsu Siemens supports Java-2

Bad Homburg 09 Dec 99 Fujitsu Siemens Computers, announced support for the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) from Sun Microsystems. J2EE will further simplify the implementation of complex e-commerce enterprise solutions for Fujitsu Siemens Computers' BS2000 Mainframes. The first products corresponding to the Enterprise Edition of the new Java platform are already available, and others are to follow in the year 2000.

BS2000/OSD mainframes are a core area of the Enterprise Business of Fujitsu Siemens Computers, with OSD referring to the Open Server Dimension of its mainframe operating system. As BS2000 provides full X/Open Unix95 functionality, applications can be easily ported from Unix to BS2000. The Internet Server Branding of the Open Group certifies BS2000 as the first operating system worldwide to provide all the basic services for Internet applications in compliance with the relevant standards. By using Sun's J2EE technology, the Fujitsu Siemens Computers mainframe operating system becomes a unified platform for the development, management, and deployment of enterprise-class software in today's diverse corporate environments.

"With the release of the Enterprise Edition of the Java 2 platform, Java becomes even more relevant for major enterprise applications. Its platform-independent architecture provides a strong, secure engine for e-commerce and enables our customers to take full advantage of the Java 2 platform for their mission critical applications," said Peter Schlichtiger, Executive Director BS2000/OSD at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "Our Mainframe System BS2000/OSD was the first operating system to receive the Internet Server Branding from "The Open Group", and today we are really excited about the release of J2EE. We look forward to incorporating it into a range of new products and technologies, starting with our new 'BeanTransactions' High-End Application Server. BeanTransactions from Fujitsu Siemens Computers combines Enterprise Java Services with the outstanding advantages of the underlying openUTM transaction monitor that has already proven its high level of reliability, availability and scalability in thousands of mission-critical distributed OLTP applications."

"J2EE brings simplicity, scalability, and choice to businesses," said George Paolini, Vice President, Java Community Development, Sun Microsystems. "We are delighted to see Fujitsu Siemens Computers confirm its commitment to the Java platform and to the advancement of Java technology. The Enterprise JavaBeansTM component architecture - the core of J2EE -- complements Fujitsu Siemens Computers' strategy of supporting customers that want to migrate from business to e-business with a modern component-based, server-centric application architecture."
