New fasterSSP ScaMPI
Oslo 25 Jan 00 Scali released version 2.0.0 of its Scali Software Platform (SSP) core MPI product. The new release shows improved MPI performance with multiple MPI processes per node, fault tolereance capabilities, and news graphical montioring tools.The SSP 2.0.0 is available for RedHat Linux and Solaris/x86. SuSE Linux and Solaris/SPARC versions will be available shortly.
ScaMPI has improved performance due to: - SMP awareness for all collective operations
- rewritten receive handling using a single thread
- use of inlining for MPI_Sendrecv() for small messages
- rewritten immediate handling to use less system resources
- rewrite of yield handling
- separate send queue giving the possibility to have more pending send operations
- new locking strategy for allocating shared memory
ScaiMPI added functionality: - Checking whether application has been compiled with the ScaMPI version of mpi.h or mpif.h, see note below.
- Added extra options for mpirun script: stdin, processes pr. node, frontend and dqs support
- ScaBench, Scalis test suite to benchmark MPI based workstation clusters is now added to ScaMPItst package. The tests are divided in to single node tests, point-to-point communication tests and collective communication tests.
