IBM DB2 available on SGI Linux servers

Mountain View 03 Feb 00 SGI announced that IBM's DB2 Universal Database is available on all Linux operating system-based SGI 1000 series servers. In addition, a team of engineers from SGI and IBM is currently collaborating to optimize DB2 Universal Database for Linux on IA-32 systems and IA-64 systems when available.

As one of SGI's strategic database platforms for its Linux operating system-based servers, DB2 Universal Database gives SGI customers access to a broader range of Linux applications, particularly in the area of e-business.

As the foundation for e-business, DB2 Universal Database is the industry's first multimedia, Web-ready relational database management system, strong enough to meet the demands of large corporations and flexible enough to serve medium-size and small businesses. DB2 Universal Database helps companies leverage information for timely decision-making and competitive advantage in the evolving e-business environment.

The SGI 1000 server family consists of the SGI 1400 server and the SGI 1200 server. The SGI 1400 server ships with one to four Intel Pentium III Xeon processors. The SGI 1200 server, equipped with one to two Pentium III processors.
