Hitachi introduces 3 Bips mainframe
Santa Clara 07 Feb 00 Hitachi Data Systems introduced a new Hitachi Skyline Trinium 16-way mainframe server delivering nearly three billion instructions per second (3 Bips), making it the world's most powerful commercial enterprise server, the company claims.
In October of last year, Hitachi unveiled the very successful Skyline Trinium Eight Series -- the first server to break the 2 BIPS barrier -- and now Hitachi is first again with the new Trinium Nine Series, the only server on the planet to produce performance so colossal it approaches the 3 BIPS barrier. Fulfilling Hitachi's statement of intent issued last February, the new 16-way Trinium ) complex is available immediately, as well as new 13-way to 15-way Trinium models. Targeted at the top five percent of the world's most IT-intensive corporations, the new 16-way Trinium complex is designed to process Web and non-Web transactions faster than any S/390(R) server in the world, and offer the greatest workload surge protection available anywhere, Hitachi says. The 16-way Trinium complex also allows customers to reduce the number of high-end mainframes or a forest of smaller data or application servers, thereby reducing enterprise complexity and the overall systems management process.
