Copeland responsible for marketing and sales at Tera

Seattle 17 Feb 00 Tera Computer Company announced that Rene G. Copeland has been appointed Vice President-Sales and Marketing. Copeland previously worked for supercomputer departments at IBM and Cray.

Richard M. Russell, who has been serving as Tera's Vice President-Marketing, has been appointed Vice President-International.

Copeland, 52, has served in a number of key executive and management positions in the high-performance computer industry during the past 20 years. He joins Tera from IBM ( where he served as the Manager of the World-Wide Manufacturing Segment for the RS6000 SP Supercomputer with responsibility for the automotive, aerospace and electronics industries.

Prior to joining IBM in 1998, Copeland held a variety of senior management, marketing and sales positions at Silicon Graphics, Inc.., and Cray Research, Inc.

Rene G. Copeland has held high level positions in management, marketing and sales over a 20-year career in high-performance computing.

Prior to joining Tera, he was the Manager of the World-Wide Manufacturing Segment for the IBM RS6000 SP Supercomputer with responsibility for the automotive, aerospace and electronics industries. Copeland was at Silicon Graphics from 1995 to 1998, where he served as Vice President of Customer Relations and as Managing Director of SGI, PTY Ltd, the SGI sales subsidiary in South Africa.

In his 15-year career at Cray Research, started in 1980, he held a number of sales and management positions, including Vice President of Industry Marketing and Assistant to the Chairman. From 1992 to 1994, Copeland was President and CEO of Instrumental, Inc., a Minneapolis-based start-up software company focused on productivity software for the UNIX high-performance computing market. He rejoined Cray in 1994 (which was acquired by SGI in 1995).
