Chinese Internet portal on RS600/SP

Pudong 16 Mar 00 Backed by three IBM RS 6000SP parallel supercomputers located in Pudong and Hong Kong, an second generation portal for China has been launched.

E-business followers are expected to find a more efficient and secure website when surfing on-line with the debut of Best of China.com - a second-generation commerce transaction portal - recently "Best-of-China.com is to become the premiere transaction engine for e-business, e-commerce and commerce-enabled electronic content delivery to the Chinese mainland and Chinese language communities around the world," Ralph Miller, CEO of the firm, claimed at the inauguration ceremony recently.

Backed by three IBM RS 6000SP parallel supercomputers located in Pudong and Hong Kong, the company will secure a very rapid transaction speed, Miller said. The company will also install the wireless access protocol server for wireless e-commerce in China. E-business has been booming in China starting from last year, and e-business websites topped to 200 in the Chinese mainland.

The number of Internet users in 1999 has surpassed 8.90 million. IBM will hold a stake in the newly-founded firm, said Henry Chow, chairman and CEO of IBM China Group, but the details of its shareholding percentage was not disclosed.
