SARA opens second office in Almere
Almere 23 Mar 00 The Dutch academic supercomputer centre SARA, based in Amsterdam, opens a second office in Almere. The city of Almere, wants to strengthen the ICT sector in the city and provides SARA with a grant of 2 million euro.
Almere, in the newest "polder" - reclaimed land - in the Netherlands, is the fastest growing city in the country, starting from zero inhabitants fifteen years ago to 150.000 inhabitants today. An important growth sector for the city is ICT. The SARA facilities in Almere, will be direcly connected to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) in Amsterdam. The new centre will house a new Virtual Reality Laboratory. Also information management activities and housing for large (HPC) customers will take place in the new office.
