Visual Numerics Enters Open Market via ComponentSource

Boulder 06 Apr 00 Visual Numerics and ComponentSource inked an agreement whereby ComponentSource will electronically distribute Visual Numerics' entire product line for the first time to the global open market.

Beginning May 1, Visual Numerics' products will be immediately accessible internationally for purchase and download via electronic software distribution from the ComponentSource website. The product line includes the IMSL Libraries, pre-built mathematical and statistical components for FORTRAN and C++ developers; PV-WAVE, a family of desktop visual data analysis tools; JWAVE, an enterprise visual data analysis tool; and INVIZION, a customizable time-series analysis application.

All previously established sales channels for Visual Numerics' products, including the company's direct sales force and its network of international "brick-and-mortar" distributors, remain intact.

Today's mature component platforms and development tools enable a widely acknowledged, best-of-breed component-based approach to application development. According to many information technology analysts, all applications will soon be built using software components. Designing and building applications using "off-the-shelf" open market components is set to become pervasive. Developers today can purchase componentized tried-and-tested business logic, which means they can focus on building specific components that differentiate their solutions. PriceWaterhouse Coopers predicts that the market for "off-the-shelf" software components will be worth more than $1 billion by 2002.

The rewards of adopting this application development strategy include a faster time to market with competitive advantage, and long-term solutions that are adaptable to changing business needs, resulting in maximum return on investment.

Founded in 1995, ComponentSource is the world's leading business-to business component community for EJB, CORBA and COM+. ComponentSource.com is the website of choice for technical decision-makers involved in specifying, locating and procuring software components. Through its award-winning eBusiness model, which combines content, community and transaction services, ComponentSource is host to the largest online market for components anywhere on the Internet. The company, which actively recruits and assists new component authors to enter the open market, is headquartered in Atlanta and has offices in Reading, England.
