RS/6000 fast on Baan

Somers 11 May 00 IBM announced that its DB2 Universal Database running on IBM's latest RS/6000 servers has achieved record-breaking benchmark performance on a number of leading ISV solutions. In separate certified Baan tests, DB2 set record-breaking benchmark results on both RS/6000 F80 and S80 models. Lawson Software's enterprise e-business solutions showed extremely high data throughput and transaction performance running with DB2 Universal Database on the copper-based RS/6000 model M80 and S80. These results demonstrate that DB2 offers optimum scalable performance to customers.

In tests with DB2 Universal Database running Baan software on RS/6000 S80 servers in 2-tier and 3-tier environments, DB2 was able to achieve results of 8750 and 17500 BRUs (Baan Reference Users) respectively. Both results set new world records for the respective configurations, and in the case of the 2-tier result a performance improvement of 31% over an Oracle database product.

In tests with DB2 Universal Database running Baan software on an RS/6000 F80 server in host mode, DB2 was able to achieve 2345 BRUs (Baan Reference Users). This result was 12% faster than results achieved by Oracle, the nearest competitive database product.

The Lawson benchmarks simulated payroll production and accounts payable performance. The test scenarios represented typical payroll and accounts payable processing for large enterprises and fast-growth mid-size companies. Each scenario was tested with DB2 Universal Database on both the S80 with 24 processors and the M80 with 8 processors. Results achieved were the highest ever attained compared to similar testing performed on a comparable configuration.
