The acquisition is part of Comdisco's expanded commitment to help its customers build and maintain highly available IT infrastructures to support mission-critical business functions. The IBM S/390 G6 servers, equipped with IBM's innovative copper chips, complement this initiative, offering highly reliable and high-speed processing capacity.
Comdisco provides a portfolio of continuous availability and global recovery solutions to help companies reduce the cost and risk of an interruption to their business operations. For example, during Hurricane Floyd in September 1999, five Comdisco customers were forced to evacuate their own locations and were able to quickly transfer critical applications and data onto IBM servers at Comdisco facilities, minimizing revenue loss and business disruption.
Comdisco will use the new S/390 servers to support its overall availability services, including to provide complete standby systems that replicate a customer's own computing environment as well as for back-end support, such as instantaneous transaction processing and data capturing of e-business transactions.
