Java 2 on Himalaya
Houston 01 May 00 Compaq Computer Corporation's NonStop Himalaya servers now provide full support for Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). The addition of Java capability is a step in Compaq's plan to advance the Himalaya platform as a core transaction engine for large-scale, Internet-driven e-business environments. Compaq also announced its new S74 family of faster NonStop Himalaya servers.
The coupling of the Himalaya server's reliability and scalability with Java's power and flexibility is a compelling combination for customers. With support for J2EE, Himalaya servers become the industry's most reliable Java-based platform for e-business. Customers can create enterprise Java applications that inherit the availability and scalability of Himalaya systems. Also, programmers can develop on servers with Windows NT or UNIX operating systems, and ensure that those applications will run without change on Himalaya servers. The new NonStop Himalaya Servers are called the S74 series. The high-end Himalaya S74000 server leverages a new microprocessor that enables applications to run 30 percent faster. The price of the Himalaya S74000 remains the same as the previous Himalaya S72000. The S74 series, which also includes the midrange S7400 and two entry level systems, the S740 and the S74, incorporates other advances that prepare it for transition to the Compaq Alpha microprocessor in 2003.
