The ACCESS project: visiting Spanish supercomputing centres through EC IHP programme

Barcelona 20 Apr 00 CESCA and CEPBA, the Spanish supercomputing LSFs (Large Scale Facilities) can be visited by European researchers thanks to the project ACCESS (Access to CESCA and CEPBA largE Scale facilitieS), developing since March 1st 2000.

ACCESS, held within the IHP programme (Improving Human Potential and Socio-Economic Knowledge Base) of the European Commission, allows research teams from the EU and associated states to visit these centres and make use of their computers. The researchers benefitting from ACCESS will be provided with a single return trip from the centre of origin plus a living allowance, being a condition that the visit must not exceed three months.

One of the important characteristics of CESCA and CEPBA as large scale facility is that both centres are in the middle of a large university infrastructure with research groups working in different important areas which go from Theoretical Chemistry to Structure Simulation and Computer Science. Also, the centres offer technical support and expertise in the parallelization of large numerical and non numerical codes.
