Intercampus is the project of all the public catalan universities (Universitat de Barcelona, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universitat de Girona, Universitat de Lleida, Universitat Rovira i Virgili and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya), with the support of the Information Society and the University and Research Commissioners of the Catalan Government. Its goal is to start a pilot scheme for a joint academic management and the exchange of all the information required for the normal academic activity: lecturing on an official basis. Intercampus starts with 16 free choice subjects that will be taught through Internet.
According to Lluís Jofre, in charge of the Pla Estratègic Catalunya en Xarxa,
with this project Catalan universities share a common place in the network, so it will enhance
a great virtual mobility between their students and will
lay the foundations of a future digital university in Catalonia.
Intercampus will allow students from a given university to participate of the virtual teaching of other universities, making easier for them the registration, communication and information, and coordinating the administrative support between the original university and the university which is teaching the subject.
