Commercial WMPI released by Critical

Coimbra 18 August 2000 WMPI, an implementation of MPI for NT iis now available as a commercial implementation from Portugal based Critical Software. WMPI implements release MPI-1 of the Message Passing Interface standard.

The MPI - Message Passing Standard, promoted by the MPI forum - http://www.mpi-forum.org - is currently supported and accepted by the majority of the high-performance community, including GMD, NASA, DOD; NOAA, DOS, among others.

Applications that may benefit from MPI include scientific number-crunching, signal and image processing, computational fluid dynamics, and business applications such as data-mining, simulation, and transaction processing across several industries.

WMPIis an implementation of the standard, supporting development and deployment of parallel applications in Windows -platforms and Intel -architectures. WMPI was developed partially with support from the European Commission under several Esprit projects.

While there are several MPI implementations available from Universities and Research labs, there are few companies that provide professional support for corporate MPI users. Critical Software intends to fill this gap with WMPI, originally a project from the University of Coimbra in Portugal.

Critical Software has defined an ambitious product roadmap for WMPI and a wealth of support options designed to maximize the return on product investment by corporate MPI users and sharpen the competitive advantage of using high-performance platforms.

The roadmap includes a full MPI-2 standard implementation by the end of Q3 2000. The support for VIA will be available for Q4.
