Digital Dream studio uses SG 1200 Linux systems for rendering
San Jose 15 August 2000 SGI supplied more than 200 SGI 1200 Linux OS based servers to Digital Dream Studio
(DDS), one of the major digital game and animation makers in Korea. DDS will
use these systems as rendering servers for its 3D animation film ARK,
targeted for release in 2001.
The SGI 1200 server is a scalable, highly available, rack-optimized server. Supporting up to two Pentium III
processors, the SGI 1200 server is designed to support demanding
applications as well as clusters of servers solving technical compute
problems.
Established in 1993, Digital Dream Studio completed the world's 10th largest
digital studio last year for the first time in Korea. It possesses movement
control animation programming technology, video game development technology
based on various platforms, and development technologies for real-time 3D
engines and artificial intelligence. DDS recently opened subsidiary office
in Japan and it also established Digital Realm together with director John
Woo. The studio is currently in production on its first animated feature
film, ARK, targeted for a 2001 release.
