SuSE Linux 7.0 for PowerPC

Nuremberg 13 November 2000 SuSE Linux announced the release of SuSE Linux 7.0 PowerPC Edition.

SuSE Linux 7.0 for the PowerPC has numerous improvements over its predecessor. In addition to the renowned comprehensive manual, the 5 CDs of this edition contain more than 1,000 applications for virtually any purpose. This includes image processing software, desktop applications, emulators, and the wide range of available window managers, network tools and editors. The inclusion of MoL (Mac on Linux) allows users to access a network-capable MacOS in the window or full-screen mode.

In addition to the stable and reliable KDE 1.1.2 graphical user interface, the PowerPC Edition includes the highly anticipated beta version of KDE 2.0, which constitutes the next generation of the award-winning KDE series. KDE is a powerful, modular, and Internet-focused desktop for Linux and other UNIX operating systems.

SuSE's integrated installation tool, YaST2, automatically recognizes and configures the hardware during the installation process. SuSE Linux 7.0 PowerPC Edition is the first Linux distribution worldwide that supports IBM's pSeries with POWER3 processors, thereby expanding the wide range of supported hardware already running on version 6.4, Apple PowerMac, IBM RS/6000, and Motorola PReP systems. The new XFree86TM 4.01 is now able to identify common graphics subsystems like the well-known Rage 128 graphic card from ATI. The configuration tool SaX2 ensures the easy installation and setup of graphics cards.

SuSE Linux 7.0 PowerPC Edition is available for purchase directly from SuSE or from various bookstores and software retailers. The suggested retail price of $49.95 includes 60 days installation support via telephone, Email and fax.
