 Siroyan adopts ACE's CoSy compiler development system for next-gen processor
Siroyan entered into a licensing agreement with ACE Associated Compiler Experts for the CoSy compiler development system. Siroyan will use the CoSy technology as a basis for the compiler for its 'next generation' Scalable Integrated Processor. CoSy is a commercial development system that allows compiler developers to generate production-quality compilers for a wide range of languages and targets.

 IBM to introduce superdistribution capabilities for advancement of digital music marketplace
IBM announced enhancements to its market-leading solution for the digital distribution of music with a number of key features including superdistribution. The IBM Electronic Media Management System (EMMS) new superdistribution capability, to be available in the first quarter of 2001, will allow the authorised peer-to-peer sharing of music or book files, giving retailers and consumers the ability to pass content to multiple recipients.

 Mediamatec licenses IBM's Electronic Media Management System for European market
MediaMatec will license IBM's Electronic Media Management System (EMMS) for integration with MediaMatec's soon-to-be-announced Clearing-Service. EMMS provides a sophisticated electronic media distribution and digital rights management (DRM) system that will enable MediaMatec to offer a comprehensive and integrated service to record labels and retailers wishing to participate in the digital music distribution marketplace. Records labels and retailers will be able to use the MediaMatec Clearing-Service to deliver copyright-protected music to consumers without implementing a DRM infrastructure of their own.

 Sun forms strategic relationship with BT Ignite Content Hosting
Sun Microsystems has entered into a strategic business relationship with BT Ignite Content Hosting, the hosting arm of Ignite, BT's new international broadband Internet Protocol (IP) data and solutions business. This relationship positions Sun as the sole supplier of Unix-based servers to BT Ignite Content Hosting's extensive network of Internet data centres.

The SPEEDUP Society, an independent Swiss non-profit organisation announced the 29th SPEEDUP Workshop to be held at the University of Bern, Switzerland on March 22 - 23, 2001. The topic of this year's workshop is on "Distributed Computing and High-Speed Networks".

RRZN (Regional Computer Center of Lower Saxony - Regionales Rechenzentrum fuer Niedersachsen), Hanover, disclosed some details of the joint HPC project of the six northern German States. Further they discussed the future of the existing supercomputers and the application areas.

A large non-profit lab, OSDL, designed for developers who are adding new business-oriented capabilities to Linux and Linux-based software opened in Portland, USA, with the support of 19 sponsor companies and more than $24 million in funding.he first OSDL project is a scalability project designed to enhance the Linux operating system to support 16 64-bit processors with near-linear performance improvement.

 HPWREN provides seismologists with improved data collection and distribution methods
The US Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics is taking real-time data collection and distribution one step farther with the NSF-funded High Performance Wireless Research and Education Network. The centre, that specialises in the development and testing of improved real-time seismic data, recently started to create, demonstrate, and evaluate the HPWREN, a prototype network that will allow field scientists to send and receive continuous real-time data from remote research stations.

 RS/6000 SP for Japanese high energy physics
The Japanese High Energy Accelerator Research Organization has selected IBM's RS/6000 SP and High Performance Storage System (HPSS), an advanced software for storage management, to enhance a computing system used by its researchers. The RS/6000 SP will be mainly used as the back-end data server and computational server at the Organization, and also will handle huge amounts of data -- ranging from data collection and analysis of experiments to databases managing the operation of accelerators, and designing and development of accelerators.

 Silicon Graphics Zx10 Visual Workstation scores well on MCAD benchmarks
The Silicon Graphics Zx10 visual workstation, powered by an Intel Pentium III 1 GHz processor and 3Dlabs Wildcat 4210 graphics, achieved the best overall composite score of 2.58 on the Unigraphics V15 benchmark and the top graphics composite score of 5.35 on the SolidWorks 99 benchmark, SGI claims. In addition, Silicon Graphics Zx10 captured the best overall composite score (4.53) for Pentium III processor-based workstations on the SolidWorks 99 benchmark.

 Concurrent awarded $2 Million contract by AAI corporation
Engineering Support, Inc. (ESI) has purchased 13 of Concurrent's Power Hawk Series 640 closely-coupled systems and spares for maintenance trainer devices. The value of the total contract with ESI exceeds $2 million.

 Linux cluster for grid computing at Ohio SUpercomputer Center
SGI will install a production cluster based on Intel Itanium processors at the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC). The 146-processor system will provide the Ohio research and education community with the world's largest system using the new Itanium architecture. Part of the cluster will be devoted to the US National Computational Grid Project.

 University of Delaware installs AMD based Beowulf cluster
The University of Delaware's Bartol Research Institute (BRI) has installed a supercomputer powered by AMD Athlon processors. Racksaver's "Samson" supercomputer, a Beowulf Cluster design that uses 128 AMD Athlon processors, was purchased through a $500,000 Major Research Infrastructure (MRI) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

SteelEye Technology entered an OEM agreement with Linux NetworX, a provider of large-scale clustered computers for Internet, industry and research fields. The US National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois will install two IBM Linux clusters to create one of the fastest Linux supercomputer with 2 Tflop/s of computing power.

 Blackstone selects NonStopNet to provide foundation for distributed supercomputing via Internet
Blackstone Technology Group, that manufactures compute-farm based distributed supercomputing software and solutions, has engaged NonStopNet as its Internet Infrastructure Partner, to help provide a massively scalable, high-throughput network for enterprises running computationally-intensive applications.
