Levesque joins Cray

Seattle 28 August 2001 High-performance computing industry veteran John Levesque has joined Cray as senior technologist. Among his accomplishments, Levesque created and led IBM Research's Advanced Computing Technology Center (ACTC).

In his new position, Levesque will evaluate market requirements and technologies, and will lead a number of strategic projects.

Before joining Cray Inc., Levesque was director of software development for a privately held provider of storage systems, and led that company's Linux, Unix and Windows initiatives. At IBM Research, the ACTC group Levesque directed worked with users to port and optimize applications for the IBM SP system.

Earlier, Levesque was president of Applied Parallel Research, a software firm that developed tools for parallelizing applications, and a vice president at Pacific Sierra Research, where he led the group that created two well-known high-performance programming tools called VAST and FORGE.
