Concurrent awarded $2 Million contract by AAI corporation

Atlanta 23 January 2001 Engineering Support, Inc. (ESI) has purchased 13 of Concurrent's Power Hawk Series 640 closely-coupled systems and spares for maintenance trainer devices. The value of the total contract with ESI exceeds $2 million.

ESI, a wholly owned subsidiary of AAI Corporation, provides systems engineering processes instrumental in designing maintenance training products with unparalleled fidelity. Innovative hands-on maintenance trainer technologies are an ESI hallmark, offering solutions for mission readiness to government and commercial customers worldwide. The simulation application for which Concurrent's Power Hawk 640 systems will be used demands "real-time" computing that is virtually unattainable via a standard PC. Scheduling, communication, and execution tasks are, however, readily accomplished by Concurrent's Power Hawk system.

Simulation devices require hundreds of simultaneous "computer-intensive" tasks, and Concurrent was able to bring its 30-plus years of real-time experience to the table and provide the precise, fault-tolerant performance mandated by such mission-critical applications. Imperative features of the customized systems include real-time clocks, shared memory, POSIX calls, and instant response to external events.

"Concurrent's Power Hawk 640 was chosen for this application as the result of an ESI Technical Trade Study. The objective of the study was to provide a COTS solution for an Open System architecture that best met performance and life cycle cost requirements," said David Warner, deputy program manager for ESI's maintenance training systems at the company's facility in Summerville, SC. "Concurrent has demonstrated the ability to quickly customize solutions as needed, and its systems are also compatible with Commercial-Off-The-Shelf technology," he added. "This superior technology, combined with Concurrent's 100 percent dedication to a total solution and excellent customer support, made Concurrent a clear choice for this simulation application."

ESI's parent company, AAI Corporation, has earned the Defense Department's highest certification for design and manufacturing quality assurance. AAI is a company focused on the design and production of defense and training systems. Its products include unmanned aerial vehicles, training and simulation systems, automated aircraft test and maintenance equipment, and ground transportation components.
