Large Linux cluster at NCSA
Urbana Champaign 23 January 2001 The US National Center for Supercomputing
Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois will install two IBM Linux
clusters to create one of the fastest Linux
supercomputer with 2 Tflop/s of computing power.
>The two Linux clusters, which will include more than 600 IBM eServer xSeries
servers offering 2 Tflop/s peak performance, will be used by
researchers phiscs and other science studies.
The first cluster will be installed in February and it will be based on IBM's
eServer x330 thin servers each with two 1GHz Intel Pentium III processors and
running Red Hat Linux. The second will be installed in Fall 2001, and will use
Intel's next generation 64-bit Itanium processor with TurboLinux as Operating System.
