Opportunities for EU funded Grid projects

Amsterdam 07 March 2001 Considering a Grid project and looking for European funding? Then you better hurry, because as Kyriakos Baxevanidis from the European Commission explained at the Global Grid Forum that the closing data is April 25 2001. Projects requested for CPA9 are: Grid test beds, deployment and technologies.

The work requested should focus on:

  • Test beds for full end to end service deployment and utilisation of the Grid through integration and implementation of relevant components, such as network technologies, middleware and application toolkits. These test beds should be conducted in the context of full scale applications.
  • The development of Grid-specific toolkits and software and system architectures that ensure performance and scalability of solutions together with usability and functionality
  • Interoperability between different Grid test-beds, the promotion of standards and reusable elements of broad utility and the exploitation of commonalties to reduce the barriers to deployment.

Both Research and Development; and Demonstration and Combined projects can proposed.

In addition it is possible for East European countries to proposal additions to already running projects.

The Commission is especially looking at proposals that involve a large community consisting of research, industry and users. The Commission looks at proposals that are directly contributing to the e-Europe policy and that foster international collaboration.
