CILEA installs NEC SX-5 supercomputer
Washington 13 March 2001 NEC received an order
for a supercomputer system from Consorzio Interuniversitario Lombardo
per la Elaborazione Automatica (CILEA). The system, already installed, includes
a supercomputer SX-5S/4 with 16 Gbyte memory and a peak performance of 16 Gflop/s as the main computational
resource, and began operations in January 2001.
Established in 1974, CILEA is a non-profit organization run by eight
universities in Lombardia (northern Italy), including the Universities
of Milan, under the supervision of Ministero per l' Universita e la
Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica (MURST).
CILEA provides technical services such as HPC technology, network
technology, digital library, and medical information to the related
institutions of these eight universities, public institutions and industrial
world. CILEA expects that the SX-5S/4 will highly improve their HPC
capacity in researches in structural analysis, thermal fluid flow
problems, chemical and electromagnetic field which need high-speed
computation.
