Thinkstream announces Peer-to-Peer information and commerce engine

Tigard 26 February 2001 Thinkstream launched a distributed information and commerce engine grounded in peer-to-peer (P2P) technology. Thinkstream's technology provides a new standard for accessing, managing and delivering information across the Internet. For the first time - and in real time - users can access data from its actual site, in its existing format, at precisely the moment it is needed, regardless of location or format.

Thinkstream's patent-pending distributed engine can provide access to an infinite number of information sources including Web sites, file servers, databases, images, music files, Microsoft Office files and video. The technology provides significant advantages in creating searches for information, real-time e-commerce networks, business-to-business applications, content management of supplier databases, catalog management, procurement, and information networks.

"Distributed Internet architecture, or peer-to-peer computing as represented by Thinkstream, is a significant evolution in the future of the Internet," said Carl Lehmann, vice president of Electronic Business Strategies at META Group. "This technology has significant potential when applied to application integration, portals, exchanges and supply chain management. Thinkstream is currently able to solve some of the more complex business problems associated with current data aggregation and translation models by creating an intelligent method for accessing and managing information across heterogeneous environments."

Thinkstream's engine is scalable, both vertically and horizontally, enabling it to handle an infinite amount of information and data. It also conducts powerful searches across the Internet by accessing both servers and individual PCs while intelligent routing enables users to find only those sites that are relevant to their search. Any new devices brought online begin fulfilling relevant search queries immediately since new servers and file types are automatically discovered on the network. Thinkstream has also tackled the security issues that currently plague most peer-to-peer applications by providing full security for files, queries and access.

Tadaaa! is the first working business implementation using Thinkstream's distributed technology. This new information portal will enable users to access and share any and all types of information. Details of this first-of-its-kind public information network will be provided late March.
