SuSE ahead of RedHat

Nueremberg 13 March 2001 Recently released sales figures of version SuSE 7.1 set new records in US markets. According to a recent PC data report, SuSE has a 48% market share of the Linux retail market in the USA, second is RedHat with 29%

SuSE Linux 7.1, featuring the latest kernel 2.4 and the easiest installation ever, was released in the US on February 15th. SuSE's 7.1 hit the shelves in 2 versions, 7.1 Personal and 7.1 Professional, targeting Linux newbies and enterprise Linux users.

"Our goal is to establish SuSE worldwide as the most reliable and accepted source for Linux and open source computing support. The acceptance of SuSE 7.1 shows we really jumped on top of the market" said Dirk Hohndel, president of SuSE Inc., in Oakland, CA. "When reviews of our newest version of Linux proclaimed its strength, ease of installation, reliability and functionality, we knew great sales figures would follow. Today, SuSE Linux has taken a leadership position in the distribution of Linux. We are showing the world the operating system that meets the needs and expectations of businesses and personal users the world of open source computing, not proprietary expensive operating systems with unending costly upgrades that have dominated computers everywhere."

According to a PCData report from March, 3rd 2001, the sales figures for the USA are:
SuSE 48.3%
RedHat 28.9%
Macmillan 20.8%
Caldera 0.5%
Corel 1.2%
Turbo 0.2%
