"SuSE Linux Enterprise Server" is
a platform for e-mail and Internet services as well as for the
implementation of file and print services in heterogeneous environments
(UNIX, Windows 9x/NT/2000, Novell Netware, MacOS).
"SuSE Linux Enterprise Server" is the final result of SuSE's
diversification of its Linux products targeting different audiences,
which began within the last six months. With "SuSE Linux Personal", the
company succeeded in introducing Linux to individual users who have not
used Linux before. The expanded scope of "SuSE Linux Professional" created
enthusiasm among the traditional customer group of technically inclined
users.
"The combination of Compaq ProLiant servers and SuSE Linux constitutes
the ideal platform for companies with stringent performance, stability,
and availability requirements. This server operating system is
especially suitable for intensive computing applications, which are
often the basis for mission-critical applications in the industry. Our
long-standing strong partnership will satisfy the needs of even the most
demanding customers," explains Peter Mark Droste, Chairman of the Board
of Directors, Compaq Computer GmbH.
Today Linux continues to be the fastest-growing operating system for
servers, thereby sustaining the trend of the past two years. According to
the latest figures provided by the International Data Corporation (IDC),
in 2000 Linux constituted 27 percent of the server operating systems,
representing a sales increase of 24 percent over 1999.
With an increasing number of commercial applications, more and more
companies decide to utilize Linux even in complex, mission-critical
applications. In order to ensure maximum security and stability as the
basis for smooth operation, SuSE offers customer-specific maintenance
services: the customer documents his company's hardware equipment,
the server services and the applications. Subsequently, SuSE selects
updates and security patches relevant for the customer and informs him
about the availability on the SuSE FTP server.
