SGI and Platform offer EDA-Ready Linux technical compute farm
Toronto 26 March 2001 SGI and Platform
Computing introduced the SG Electronic
Design Automation (EDA) Technical Compute Farm for Linux. Platform LSF (Load Sharing Facility)
software will be a key
component of the offering. For a limited time, beginning April 1, the SGI
EDA Technical Compute Farm for Linux will be offered at a special
introductory pricing.
The SGI EDA Technical Compute Farm for Linux provides high performance in a
compact and affordable package, featuring a complete system of
industry-leading hardware, software and support. The compute farm is based
on the SGI 1100 server, featuring 32 1 GHz Pentium III
processors, the fastest Intel processors available in an efficient
dual-processor 1U form factor. The SGI EDA Technical Compute Farm for Linux
includes a large 2GB memory per node and a Cisco Catalyst 3524-PWR XL
Gigabit Ethernet switch, providing efficient job distribution and data
access for all nodes. Also included are Red Ha Linux 6.2 and SGI
Advanced Cluster Environment (ACE) for simplified systems management. This
is an ideal configuration to run today's complex EDA applications and, with
LSF, is an ideal engine to run hundreds and thousands of design tests with
outstanding throughput.
The SGI EDA Technical Compute Farm for Linux is supported by the SGI EDA
Integration Service for Linux, a comprehensive service solution designed to
make Linux systems from SGI integrate seamlessly into your existing design
environment and provide you with the fastest time to design productivity.
This involves installation of the Advanced Cluster Environment software,
assistance with installation of a third-party EDA software and installation
of the LSF and revision control applications. The service will also ensure
that the system works smoothly with third-party clients, servers and file
servers.
The list price for SGI EDA Technical Compute Farm for Linux solution bundle
starts from $150,000 (U.S. list) for 32 CPUs. Starting from April 1 to June
30, 2001, EDA users can enjoy additional savings up to $23,200 (off the U.S.
list price) per rack when purchasing an EDA Technical Compute Farm for
Linux.
