ASP for Stochastic Analysis initiated
Munich 02 May 2001 EASi Engineering and TeraPort formed a consortium to establish the first worldwide stochastic Application Service Provider facility. The ASP will be operated jointly by both EASi and TeraPort and will be based on EASi's stochastic simulation environment ST-ORM and TeraPort's TeraPortal , which provides central access to compute intensive Engineering Applications like Crash, NVH, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Structural Mechanics. These applications, when viewed in a stochastic context, require hundreds to thousands of processors in order to return results in engineering-reasonable times.
The stochastic ASP, the first of it's kind, will enable large-scale stochastic simulation to become accessible via the unique TeraPortal(tm) engineering gateway, which fulfills industrial requirements in terms of security, availability, scalability and extensibility. Given the quickly growing interest of the automotive industry in stochastic simulation, the two companies have decided to join efforts and establish an innovative mechanism for doing innovative CAE.
Dr. Andy Rebetzky, Managing Director of TeraPort explains why the ASP model is so attractive: "Regardless of small or big compute requirements, the customer only pays for resources which actually have been used, very much like your monthly phone bill. The ASP model helps small companies to get access to big computing resources, and it helps big companies to fulfill peak loads without having to invest in permanent resources, which remain idle for most of the time".
EASi is a global engineering consulting company with headquarters in Detroit and offices in Frankfurt, Munich and Bangalore. The company, staffed by over 400 engineers, specializes in delivering integrated CAE/CAD/IT solutions to the automotive industry.
TeraPort is an Application Service Provider for mechanical, electronic engineering and life sciences environments. Its innovative TeraPortal gives engineers access to a portfolio of development and simulation programs. TeraPortal manages both on-campus intranet and external Internet Compute Sites, providing global access to application programs and data. The only client requirements are an internet browser and access rights for the application software selected.
