SHMEM library support for Dolphin WulfKit
Oslo 29 May 2001 Dolphin Interconnect and Scali, announced shared memory (SHMEM) library support
for the Dolphin WulfKit. This Scali-developed high performance communication
library option gives Cray users a cost effective method of working
with existing SHMEM programs in a low cost microprocessor supercluster
environment without the need to recompile or modify their existing
code.
SHMEM
is Cray Inc's. shared memory application programming interface (API)
for distributed memory systems found in the Cray T3D and T3E supercomputers.
Scali has implemented their first version of this library by use of
their high performance message passing libraries for the SCI interconnect.
The shared address space paradigm of SCI is especially well suited
for an efficient implementation of SHMEM. The availability of the
SHMEM library enables Cray SHMEM programs to be run on clusters providing
these users with a very cost-effective alternative to the T3D and
T3E hardware. Applications may use SHMEM and MPI simultaneously and
porting of applications is simple and straightforward.
WulfKit
is an interconnect assembly comprised of a PCI to SCI network interface
card, a SCI daughter card, two SCI cables, a full single node version
of Scali's SCI "tuned" message passing interface (MPI) middleware
and their powerful cluster management software.
The SHMEM
Wulfkit library will be offered as an option and is priced at $149.00
per node. Availability will be late second quarter 2001.
