Engenia Software licenses Roku P2P technology

Reston 07 June 2001 Engenia Software has acquired a comprehensive license to the peer-to-peer collaboration technology of Roku Technologies. Under the agreement, Engenia acquires a paid, non-exclusive perpetual license to the source code for Roku's remote PC-Access, PDA, wireless and file-sharing technologies. Engenia will integrate the new technology into the next major release of its Collaborative Services Platform, scheduled for release this summer.

The Engenia platform enables companies to collaborate meaningfully with customers, suppliers, partners, and internal teams, in order to make timely decisions and get fast results for their businesses. The addition of Roku's collaboration technology will accelerate delivery of device and remote PC support, and enable users to access information on their PCs remotely using a variety of interfaces. These additions will boost the ability of Engenia's adaptive collaboration platform to power effective value chain management solutions.

Several members of Roku's core marketing and technical team will join Engenia, including David Craine, Roku's senior technical architect; Maureen Lalor, Roku's VP of Business Development, and several key members of Roku's development group.

Roku's peer-to-peer computing technology enables people to view, use and share information across wired or wireless devices and networks. Written in Java and XML, and fully compatible with Engenia's adaptive collaboration platform, Roku uses context to link relevant information. Such context-grounded linking will make Engenia's platform for collaboration between individuals, partners and suppliers even more powerful.

The Roku technology license was acquired for a combination of cash and Engenia warrants to acquire stock, following the decision by the Roku board of directors to cease the company's operations.
