Dell Launches 64-bit Itanium workstation;
Austin 29 May 2001 The Dell Precision Workstation 730 based on the Intel
Itanium processor id available for U.S. customers. Dell plans to make the product available worldwide later this
year.
Dell designed the Dell Precision Workstation 730 for large
business customers, software developers and scientific users to take
advantage of the new Intel Itanium 64-bit processor.
The Dell Precision Workstation 730 provides a development
and testing platform for customers who intend to migrate applications
to the new architecture. Customers running technical scientific
applications with large data sets should see an immediate benefit from
the large amount of system memory and impressive floating point
performance -- a measure of how many mathematical computations per
second the processor can handle. These features are also critical to
digital content creation, computer-aided engineering and design, fluid
simulation and dynamics, and other compute-intensive applications.
