Fortran95 and C/C++ compilers for NEC Express5800/1160Xa

Tokyo 25 June 2001 NEC has licensed compiler technology from Intel Corporation. NEC will use the Intel compiler technology to develop the FORTRAN95 and C/C++ compilers targeting the Linux-based NEC Express5800/1160Xa, based on the Intel Itanium processor.

Compilers are tools used by software developers to create the applications that run on computers. The FORTRAN95 and C/C++ compilers will combine compiler technology from Intel with NEC's expertise in large-scale vectorization and parallel processing; key technologies important in the supercomputer market segment.

The NEC compilers take advantage of the performance features of the Intel Itanium processor and help insure that the architecture is fully utilized. Compiler features such as predication, improved branch prediction, speculation and software pipelining all contribute to higher performance of applications running on Intel Itanium processors.
