Compaq AlphaServer systems help Land Rover to shift the focus of automotive design away from the wind tunnel and onto the supercomputer
Land Rover, part of Ford Motor Company's Premier Automotive Group, has awarded Compaq a contract to supply 18 AlphaServer ES40 systems and two ES45 systems running Tru64 UNIX and to provide ongoing project management, systems administration, and maintenance support. This is part of Land Rover's plan to improve its Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) capability. The servers will be used to run a variety of applications in four key areas of the vehicle design process: crash analysis; Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD); structures analysis; and Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) analysis. This will dramatically increase efficiency, cut costs and development time as well as improve design quality.
