VERITAS Software extends full line of storage management software to IBM AIX

Today's announcement builds on a series of recent VERITAS Software/IBM initiatives benefiting joint customers. These include a co-operative services agreement, the joint testing and validation of integrated storage products, and an agreement with IBM Global Services to provide enterprise consulting, implementation, support and maintenance services.

VERITAS Software on AIX 5L brings a number of key storage management capabilities to pSeries environments. For the first time, companies using AIX will have the ability to take storage hardware-independent "snapshots" of their data to enable data analysis and backup without slowing down the primary data-collecting server.

AIX users will be able to replicate their enterprise environments for disaster recovery applications without reliance on storage hardware. Advanced dynamic multi-pathing technology in VERITAS Volume Manager will also provide AIX users with more than one path to the same stored information, greatly enhancing data accessibility. In addition, Oracle and DB2 database customers on AIX will see increased performance, availability, and manageability of their databases through storage management integration.

The following comprehensive suite of data management products from VERITAS Software delivers many benefits to IBM AIX customers:

• VERITAS Foundation Suite: this on-line storage management software suite integrates VERITAS Volume Manager and VERITAS File System to simplify and centralise storage management while optimising system performance and data availability.
• VERITAS Volume Replicator: this robust software replicates data to up to 32 remote locations over any standard IP network for disaster recovery or planned site migration. Its close integration with VERITAS Software's clustering and global management capabilities provides companies with a complete disaster recovery solution.
• VERITAS Cluster Server: this high availability clustering software manages application failover to eliminate planned or unplanned downtime in multi-server, heterogeneous environments. It is simple to deploy, and provides broad, off-the-shelf application support.
• VERITAS FlashSnap: this data snapshot tool allows users to instantly create copies of business-critical data for backup and analysis on a secondary server without impacting the performance of the server processing the original, revenue-generating data.
• VERITAS Database Edition for DB2 and for Oracle: this integrated suite of storage management tools uniquely optimizes both storage management and performance on DB2 and Oracle databases.
• VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter: this enterprise data protection solution consistently backs up and recovers data from all major server platforms with minimal impact to system performance and complete data integrity.

VERITAS Foundation Suite (USD $5095) including VERITAS Volume Manager and VERITAS File System; VERITAS Volume Replicator (USD $9000); VERITAS Cluster Server (USD $6000); VERITAS FlashSnap (USD $2995); and VERITAS NetBackup (USD $10,000) are available immediately on IBM AIX 5L. VERITAS Database Edition for DB2 (USD $6400) and for Oracle (USD $7900) will be available on AIX in Q3 2002. VERITAS SANPoint Control 3.5 and VERITAS Global Cluster Manager 3.5 will be available on AIX in Q4 2002.
