SuSE Linux Pro-Office CD with StarOffice 6 available from mid-June

Nuremberg 11 June 2002 SuSE Linux, an international Open Source technology expert and solutions provider, will make available the SuSE Linux Pro-Office CD with Sun Microsystems' StarOffice 6.0 by mid-June. Additionally, the Pro-Office CD for SuSE Linux 8.0 features the latest edition of the ultimate desktop environment KDE 3.0.1, as well as important patches for the SuSE Linux 8.0 operating system. With the Pro-Office CD, SuSE Linux users can equip their home computers with state-of-the-art Linux desktop technology.

StarOffice 6 comprises all vital office applications:

  • the word processing application StarOffice Writer,
  • the spreadsheet application StarOffice Calc,
  • the presentation program StarOffice Impress,
  • the drawing programme StarOffice Draw, and
  • the data organizer StarOffice Base.

Thanks to its intuitive menus and high level of user-friendliness, StarOffice 6.0 represents a powerful all around solution for the office and is fully compatible with other file formats. With StarOffice, it is easy to edit files created with Microsoft Office or Office XP applications and then, to save and exchange them in their respective file format.

One of the new features in StarOffice 6.0 is the integrated support of TrueType fonts with adapted metrics. All document formatting is preserved, regardless of the application used. For finance and accounting, StarOffice Calc now offers a functionality comparable to Microsoft Excel.

The default use of XML file formats for saving documents accelerates office operations. Contents generated with StarOffice can be ported without limitations to XML-enabled tools and applications. The compression method is also based on industry standards. Small file sizes guarantee moderate use of storage resources and short loading times.

Together with the latest features of the desktop environment KDE 3.0.1 and the last Linux patches for SuSE Linux 8.0, SuSE Linux Pro-Office is a powerful office solution for PC users. SuSE Linux Pro-Office will be available from mid-June at bookstores and software retailers at the recommended retail price of EUR 29.90.
