SGI and Unique Digital partner to deliver packaged storage solutions for managing complex data
Mountain View 19 June 2002 SGI and Unique Digital Inc. have established a strategic alliance authorising Unique Digital to resell the complete line of SGI servers, workstations, visualisation systems, software products and data management offerings in packaged solutions to several industries. Unique Digital will particularly focus on reselling SGI storage solutions, including CXFS 2.1, the SGI shared filesystem for heterogeneous storage area network (SAN) environments, and SGI SAN Server 1000, a turnkey SAN solution. The agreement partners industry-leading SGI supercomputing solutions with Unique Digital's systems integration expertise to provide a one-stop source for customers with specific high-performance computing and data management needs.
"Unique Digital's experience delivering storage solutions for high-performance computing, including SAN, NAS and DAS, further enables SGI to successfully channel our core competencies into the industries we serve", said Bob Murphy, marketing team leader, SGI Storage Solutions.
Unique Digital will sell SGI solutions to customers requiring accurate and real-time data processing while collaborating across multiple operating systems. UDI will primarily focus its reselling efforts on high-performance computing industries such as oil and gas and entertainment that demand supercomputer-class access to large sets of complex data in multiplatform environments.
Packaged with the CXFS SAN filesystem software, SGI SAN Server 1000 allows groups of computers to share large amounts of data across multiple platforms including IRIX, Windows NT and Solaris while providing a single SAN-wide filesystem view. CXFS provides the performance and scalability of a SAN with the connectivity commonly associated with network-attached storage (NAS).
The coupling of CXFS software with SGI SAN Server 1000 hardware greatly simplifies the deployments of multi-OS SAN environments. Unique Digital will customise this unmatched combination of flexibility, performance and scalability to fit customers' individual needs for managing data-intensive work flows.
