KPNQwest chosen to stream Eurovision Song Contest

Hoofddorp 06 March 2002 KPNQwest, a pan-European data communications and hosting company, has signed an agreement with the Estonian national public broadcaster to provide the content delivery services and backbone infrastructure for the Eurovision Song Contest. The event, now in its 46th year, is scheduled to take place on the 25th May in Tallinn, Estonia. This year promises to be a big hit reaching some 100 million viewers worldwide.

KPNQwest, together with its partner Akamai, will provide the solution to deliver this event on the Internet, using audio and video streaming for up to 100,000 viewers through the official site www.eurovision.tv. This content distribution service allows users to benefit from a high quality solution, supported by a robust architecture to support peak traffic levels. Viewers will also have the opportunity to participate in on-line events, receive live commentary and engage in topical discussions making the on-line experience much more interactive. The event can also be replayed within one month after the live performance.
