The co-operation between these two major Grid projects is a step toward the creation of a unique European Grid scenario, as the two projects together represent almost all the European countries and share experiences in managing Grid computing testbeds and a common middleware.
The European Grid Industry and Research Forum organises meetings, co-ordinates on-line discussions and presents live demonstrations where industrial representatives are able to acquire specific
knowledge in terms of Grid technology and applications.
Members will gain the know-how that will put them in a favourable position for the development of new solutions and, in the long run, the commercialisation of value-adding services for a wide set of users.
The European Grid Industry and Research Forum is the result of the merging between the Industry and Research fora of two large European Grid projects: DataGrid and CrossGrid. These fora share the same objectives of divulgation of experience gained from the projects and stimulation of demand and precompetitive development of DataGrid - and CrossGrid - enabled products and related services, thus moving the knowledge of DataGrid and CrossGrid from e-science to e-business.
The European Grid Industry and Research Forum is a point of contact between the research on Grid technologies and the industrial and scientific world. Established and managed in the framework of major European Grid projects with the mission of accelerating the adoption of Grid
technologies, the Forum groups together the potential users of the projects results and creates new opportunities of collaboration among people acting in different disciplines and with different
roles in the business world.
The IRF members gain the know-how that will put them in a favourable position for the development of new solutions and, in the long run, the commercialisation of value-adding services for a wide
set of users in industry, institutions, commerce, etc. The IRF members will have web access to a real grid built on the most recent results of the European Research.
The free subscription to the European Grid Industry and Research Forum enables researchers, countries and parties, which otherwise have difficulties in joining an EU consortium, to receive newsletters, to participate in interesting discussions, to be invited to major Grid events and live demonstrations.
