Roadmap of Scali and ParTec

Munich 10 December 2002 Fujitsu Siemens Computers partners with both companies in the field of System Area Networks, they presented new strategies. Scali for example will broaden its base for ScaMPI. Partec will start its ParaStation 4 in the first quarter next year.

Scali

Scali's first generation ScaMPI supported shared memory SCI and was MPICH binary compatible. In the next generation, Scali circumvents the TCP/IP stack and uses a direct transport model. The Direct Ethernet Model will be applied to Myrinet too. Thus in the second generation there will be a single version of ScaMPI for Ethernet, Infiniband, Myrinet, SCI, GigabitEthernet, and raw GigabitEthernet. Following Scali's announcement, the next generation will have a record breaking interconnect performance, an interconnect interoperability, and an advanced cluster management and communication. First versions are available this year, but the official announcement and release will be next year.

ParTec

ParaStation 3 supports Myrinet and the processors Intel/Linux, HP Alpha/Linux, and Alpha/Tru64 Unix. ParaStation FE, fast Ethernet, is available for Intel/Linux and Alpha/Linux. The Cluster Management manages the nodes and processes, is fault tolerant and manages the job control and errors. ParaStation 4, which will be announced in the first quarter next year, is a complete rewrite. It uses a new, very slim protocol with very small overhead. It is optimised for cluster communication and independent of the network type and the hardware. The processors can be Intel and AMD 32-bit, Intel IA-64, AMD Opteron and Alpha. ParaStation 4 supports Myrinet, fast and GigabitEthernet, Infiniband and Loopback.
