Following one of its strategic directions - Business Critical Computing - Fujitsu Siemens Computers is a developer and supplier of communications infrastructure with products like the Resilient Telco Platform (RTP) and PRIMECLUSTER product suite, as well as server management solutions. For almost a decade, these have been fulfilling customer needs for carrier-grade availability together with the companys UNIX-based server systems. The effectiveness and reliability of this platform has been confirmed time and time again by the more than 2,000 installations operating in carrier space around the globe.

These products, previously offered only on UNIX platforms, are now also available on Intel architecture based platforms with the carrier-grade Linux operating system. Linux is fully supported by the company's Intel processor-based PRIMERGY servers.

"Our customers will benefit greatly from our participation in the Intel Communications Alliance with carrier-grade platforms for communications applications on standardized platforms such as AdvancedTCA (Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture)," said Dieter Herzog, Executive Vice President Enterprise Products at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "Supporting our application infrastructure with standard high volume hardware will also reduce total cost of ownership for these applications."

The goal of the Intel Communications Alliance is to create a community of developers and solutions providers that, like Intel, are committed to the value of standards based modular platforms and solutions, and capable of delivering products and services at multiple levels of integration to telecom equipment manufacturers. The program is structured to add value and improve business in the following key market segments:

  • Communications: Infrastructure, wireless, wireline/broadband, & enterprise edge
  • Embedded: industrial, imaging, medical, Point of Sales (POS)
Since 2001, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has also been an active member of the Service Availability Forum (SAF), formed by a communications industry which recognized that effective solutions required, above all, the broad adoption of open standards. The SAF aims to develop the missing standard interfaces and thus enable high-availability carrier-grade systems to be delivered using off-the-shelf hardware platforms, middleware and service applications. To further this cause, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is organizing the International Service Availability Symposium 2004 in Munich on May 13.
