Fujitsu Siemens Comouters releases "cool" servers for hot performance
Munich 06 October 2004

Fujitsu Siemens Computers is among the first vendors to offer Intel's Xeon dual processor technology with Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T), providing the versatility to run 32-bit and 64-bit applications. The innovative air-flow cooling technology 'cool-safe’ helps to extend the life span of servers, even in the highest density server racks and the products integrate a range of management tools to simplify the IT manager's tasks.

The new PRIMERGY tower models (TX200 S2 / TX300 S2) and the new rack models (RX200 S2 / RX300 S2) are fully equipped to meet the needs of large and small medium-sized enterprises, who require a server that offers the highest levels of performance and reliability. The new servers enable IT managers to build a server farm that is cost effective and has the flexibility to meet the changing demands places on today’s IT infrastructures. Prices start in Germany for the TX series at 1800 euro (excl. VAT) and for the RX series at 2500 euro (excl. VAT).

Since the best things to manage are those that hardly ever fail, hot-plug functionality provides for cool servers. Guaranteeing continuous platform operation and high application reliability are an array of integrated-redundancy and hot-plug features such as hot-plug disks, hot-spare memory, hot-plug power supply, hot-plug PCI-X, hot-plug redundant fans, plus RAID 5 embedded and redundant dual LAN features. The servers come bundled with the PRIMERGY ServerView Suite including remote management functions. These functions will reduce troubleshooting as well as the cost of running business-critical IT at remote sites. It all adds up to highly flexible management and the lowest TCO - anywhere, anytime.

Transition to 64-bit computing is a must in today's technology-purchase decisions. With the new S2 servers, IT managers can relax when deciding when and how to use the upcoming 64-bit computing option. All four servers come with the latest 64-bit-enabled Intel Xeon EM64T technology offering the versatility to run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. Enterprises can thus move to 64-bit computing at their own pace while preserving their current investments.

Dieter Herzog, Executive Vice President Enterprise Products, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, explained: "With our four new TX and RX servers of the S2 generation, we are among the first vendors to make the new Intel technology available for business. Our customers will get datacenter reliability with enough power and have the choice to work with either 32-bit or 64-bit applications." The servers are available as high-performance tower systems with flexible headroom, and as space-efficient rack systems for data-centre use and are a further proof-point of the company’s TRIOLE strategy for an optimized IT.

The PRIMERGY tower models TX200 S2 and TX300 S2 are designed for ultimate flexibility and expandability in order to grow apace with business demands, an important feature for companies with varying or growing workloads. This means plenty of headroom for expanding business activities so that customers benefit longer from their investment. The design for maximum ease of use and management has been honored with industry awards (Red Dot Award 2003 and IF Award 2004). The new TX servers’ proven data-center technology is the answer to the high-capacity needs of core business applications as well as of business-critical remote sites. Since corporate infrastructure is subject to consolidation changes, a universal tower-to-rack conversion kit (Tower servers can be converted into a rack) configuration is available to protect customers' investments.

The PRIMERGY rack models RX200 S2 and RX300 S2 are suitable for an IT strategy like TRIOLE that seeks to downsize data-centre infrastructure costs. They enhance the transparency of structure and maximize investment utilization. The rack servers pack the capacity of a fully featured departmental server into a slim space-saving rack design. Even more important than the best performance-per-unit-of-height is ease of management for ongoing cost optimization and operational efficiency. Consolidation strategies for corporate applications in data center server farms with central deployment and control are optimally supported by the new RX servers' features.

Company departments need business continuity from data-center providers. Their demands for scaling in application workloads and data volume require flexible support and a favorable cost structure. This is the moment when data-centre providers should opt for a compact, powerful rack server like the RX200 S2 or RX300 S2. The servers do not compromise on capacity when it comes to performance, local data volume and continuous business service, yet they make the most of precious data-center space. The compact rack servers leave room for up to 1.8 TB of local storage. Their failsafe built-in functionality makes them well suited to the demands of continuous operation.
