New offspring in the PRIMERGY 64-bit server family
Munich 06 July 2005 Fujitsu Siemens Computers introduces the new PRIMERGY 4-way tower and rack servers. By deploying Intel's 64-bit Intel Xeon processor MP technology, the new PRIMERGY servers TX600 S2 and RX600 S2 increase their performance addressing more than 4 GB of both virtual and physical memory and make them more than suitable for mission critical applications such as memory intensive databases and ERP applications.

To ensure high reliability and availability the servers come with MegaRAID onboard, hot-spare memory, mirroring and memory RAID support, as well as hot-plug redundant fans and power supply modules. The new technical features of the award winning PRIMERGY servers offer more computing and higher reliability leading to greater data security without compromising business continuity.

As all other members of the PRIMERGY family, also the TX600 S2 and the RX600 S2 are dedicated to more dynamic within IT infrastructures. Consolidated servers and virtualization technologies are key for IT landscapes in order to enhance performance, to increase the deployment of resources and to achieve more flexibility. By using a virtualization system, such as VMware ESX, different servers - operating system with a dedicated application - can be run on a real server in a virtual machine, for example several parallel virtual machines under Linux and Windows on a real PRIMERGY server like the TX600 S2 or RX600 S2. Virtualization is one major cornerstone to realise the dynamic data centre.

Integrated high-availability and capacity functions include the RAID on Motherboard functionality, redundant hot-plug power supply modules and fans, hot-plug PCI-X / PCI Express slots, and refined mechanisms for protecting the main memory and the split SCSI backplane. These features provide a level of availability and performance that makes the PRIMERGY TX600 S2 ideally suited for central business-critical applications. By combining high performance, exceptional internal capacity and data centre-derived robustness and redundancy in an easy-to-deploy packaged solution, the TX600 S2 provides an advanced level of continuous quality of operation companies can rely on.

Applications that are traditionally running on rack servers are back-end services such as databases and e-business logic which require up-scaled performance and extreme robustness to ensure smoothly running IT operations. 4-way building blocks have proven to be a very cost efficient platform for consolidating multiple smaller workloads onto fewer but more powerful servers using the latest virtualization technologies, such as Solutions from VMware and Microsoft. The new RX600 S2 combines impressive 4-way performance, exceptional internal capacity and data centre-typical robustness and redundancy features into a space-optimized 4 U rack module that is designed to meet those demands.

The new PRIMERGY TX600 S2 Tower server and PRIMERGY RX600 S2 Rack server are ideal for business critical applications in medium and large enterprise, data centres and application service providers, branch offices, database solutions, high availability configurations (Cluster) and disaster tolerant infrastructures.

Both servers are available from July on. First products have already been shipped to customers for evaluation since April.
